New tool. New opportunities
Dealing with competitors is quite important in terms of text ASO, and we keep developing tools to promote mobile apps more efficiently.
As you know, competitors should be analysed frequently. We have created Keywords Intersection for you to get a detailed overview of your competitive environment. The tool makes it easy to identify your competitors in terms of semantic core, who are your natural rivals for organic traffic.
Select keywords in our new section to develop a proper text ASO strategy and bypass larger market players in search results.
You might already know your competitors’ names, but are they your real rivals? Maybe they are ranked by unrelated keywords and not competing with you for traffic? Do you know who your competitors are in different countries? Keywords Intersection helps find answers to all these questions.
How Keywords Intersection works
There are three ways to enter the section. From the Overview page, go to ASO and select the Keywords Intersection tab. Alternatively, click the Details button below the chart on the Overview page to the right.
You also can enter the section from the left side menu, Analysis. To do so, select the tab in the ASO heading.
Keywords Intersection shows if your indexed keywords and your competitor’s keywords overlap in a certain country, both in numbers and percentage. Examine this data to adjust your semantic core.
Click your competitors’ icons to look at keyword intersection. This data can help you understand what keywords you should add and what keywords you might want to remove to make traffic more targeted.
We’ve added a built-in translator tool and an option to search by keyword to this section.
You can enable the translator by moving the checkbox — this is quite convenient while analyzing keywords for several countries at once or if you are in doubt about their meaning.
In the list of indexed keywords, you can see the metrics of relevant search results, Search Visibility, Impressions, Rank — everything we already use, for example, in Explorer and other sections.
Here you can set up a filter by Search Volume, Impressions, Rank, and number of keywords. Besides, you can sort keywords by ranking of your app or that of your competitors.
To see relevant search results, click the eye icon.
If your competitor’s app is not present at all in some country, you will see an exclamation mark in a circle instead of the number of keywords. If your keywords and keywords of your competitor don’t overlap in the selected country, you will see a dash.
There is a chart in the right block that displays keywords intersection in a certain country. Click a segment to see the number of your competitor’s keywords, the percentage of overlapping keywords, and the same percentage of your competitor.
The largest chart share represents the competitor whose semantic core overlaps with yours the most. The more common keywords there are, the more you have to compete for the target audience.
Why work with competitors’ keywords: A case study
Let’s use Facetune the photo editor as an example. We’ve added the app to the system and opened Keywords Intersection. It suggests some competitors, but you can always add them on your own.
The chart to the right immediately shows what app of the competitors list has the most keywords intersection. Hover over a chart segment, and a pop-up window with a summary will show up.
In our case, 1,101 keywords (81.08%) overlap with those of Peachy Body Editor, 1,030 keywords (75.85%) overlap with those of Everlook Face & Body Editor, and 978 (72.02%) keywords overlap with those of Lensa: Photo & Picture Editor in the US. In total, Peachy Body Editor has 2,126 indexed keywords in the US while Everlook has 1,828 and Lensa 2,175.
The rest of the apps have a much lower percentage, so we can leave them out.
The summary shows the number of indexed keywords for Peachy Body Editor and its share among the competitors.
Peachy Body Editor occupies a larger segment (33.25%) of the total keyword intersection among all competitors we have.
If you search by a certain country and look at the total number of keywords indexed there, it will turn out that our app is lagging behind, so monitoring competitors in that country is a must.
Look at the pivot table by country. It turns out that, in all the areas, Facetune is losing in terms of the number of keywords. That’s why it’s necessary to study the competitor’s semantic core to promote in these countries. In some areas, the difference does not seem very large, but, for example, in France, the keyword gap is almost triple in size.
With your competitor’s data, you can enhance your own semantic core with relevant keywords in order to replace your competitor in search results and get more organic traffic.
Next, we can use the filtering system. Let’s set the Rank filter in descending order. It turns out the app is doing well in the US by the query apple photos.
Keywords Intersection shows where we lose more in terms of ranking than our competitors:
By configuring the filter in a certain way, you can see the keywords in the specified range and sort them by folder for convenience.
Besides, you can click the eye icon to see real-time results and competitors who rank ahead of you by the selected keyword. Keywords Intersection can be a source of competitors whose semantic core should be analyzed to reveal the intersection percentage.
Now that we know the competitors’ keywords and understand who is ranking higher by popular keywords, we can adjust our promotion strategy to steal their traffic.
How Keywords Intersection works for different Checkaso plans
Keywords Intersection is available for all Checkaso plans, but it is a bit limited for Startup.
- Only one country is available in Intersection by Country;
- Searching by country and by keywords is not available;
- Only two most popular keywords show up in the keywords intersection list;
- Impression is not available for indexed keywords analysis;
- Statistics are available only for the last 7 days, and it’s not possible to select a longer timeline for analysis;
- There is no access to keywords intersection stats percentage;

Full functionality is available for plans starting with Growing Business.
We hope that Keywords Intersection will help you identify your competitors right so that you can work with their keywords to reach a larger audience and rank higher. You can use this tool to build a relevant semantic core that will make your app grow faster.
